The Moses Code: It's Like The Secret + the Old Testament

Posted on Feb 4th, 2008 by Duff : Modern Magician Duff
Apparently people haven't gotten enough of The Secret, because now Moses is apparently the one who discovered the Law of Attraction.

Why does this stuff both annoy and inspire me? Is it just the cheesy production quality of such "spiritual" movies? Or is it the strong proclamations of Aristotelian "truths" and "laws" that would be better considered with maybe logic and as-if thinking?

Or perhaps it is the facile switching between egocentric wants and spiritual affectation, such as in this paragraph, which I find credulous:

Join millions of people from every corner of the globe in learning the most powerful manifestation tool in the history of the world. Then on one momentous day we’ll use the code to promote peace and compassion for all beings through over 1000 gatherings worldwide.

Of course, I was once into Tony Robbins, and worked for Ken Wilber. And even S.N. Goenka strongly exaggerates the claims of the technique of Vipassana.

Is it necessary to exaggerate and use hyperbole to get attention in this overcrowded world?

Duff, excellent question. i sympathize with what you feel (i.e.  “Why does this stuff both annoy and inspire me?”). this may sound elitist but my opinion is that these types of “cheesy production” play important roles in the conveyor belt approach that integral proponents are talking about.

my two cents.

I believe that what you're describing feeds our hunger to know “the” answer.  Like your comment Albert. I haven't seen The Secret and have decided I don't want to….even though I want to be educated in all that's going on out there…it's my little rebellion.  I already know the answer.  We all do. We would do better to get people's attention by going out in the street and washing people's feet. :)

~C,

Certainly the hyperbole and excitement draws people in, even if they later reject the exaggerated claims. It worked on me, including with Ken Wilber! To be honest, I picked up A Brief History of Everything because of the outrageous title and his shiny bald head. And of course, integral theory/AQAL is not actually a theory of everything, it is an attempt to integrate academic disciplines (especially adult developmental psychology) with Eastern spirituality (especially Advaita Vedanta). When you start with different areas, you get different integrations (e.g. Robert Anton Wilson/Timothy Leary and the 8-circuit model of consciousness).

Of course, predictions from violent ancient civilizations about doomsday in 2012 also have caught the attention of many people. 2012 might also play a role in the “conveyor belt,” but it seems unlikely to me.

How do we determine what is serving people's development and what isn't?

By asking the very questions you ask, I suppose, Duff, determines what serves the development of the human race

I am interviewing James Twyman in March on my MIAC Visionary Series

I believe some humans channel the future, but the way our future presents itself is a reflection of our collective psyche – the code.

Integrating foreboding presentations of our reality is the same as addressing our collective shadow consciousness. When we integrate the parts of ourselves we don't like, we evolve a little at a time – individually and collectively.

These codes represent who we were back then from a group karmic perspective, then who we are now, and then finally who we are next – therefore the code does not change, but the way we perceive it changes and so does the nature of its presentation – dramatic, traumatic, malevolent, benevolent, bardot, heaven on earth…ect…

I'll be sure to ask James what he means when he says….code

Yes in the end people must take responsibility for themselves in what and how they perceive different 'truths' as they are expressed by different people or 'gurus'.  Bryan is right, in the end the 'truths' don't change per se, but the presentation does as well as how we perceive it.  It is part of our collective evolution that such archetypal formats are presented in filtered ways that may seem like cheesy marketing tactics, and are, but still have a purpose.  They provide the integral platforms from which such information gets disseminated into the collective conscious awareness.  There will be more after the Moses code I'm sure, and they each express some aspect of the Whole in their own way.  Until we no longer need these 'truths' packaged for mass consumption and can see them with our own eyes, the business will continue because we need it to :)
